Medicare has encouraged providers
to submit both their legacy Medicare ID (or "PIN")
and their NPI on claims. Beginning September 2007, Medicare
carriers began rejecting claims when a conflict between
the NPI and the legacy number (or "PIN") information
is identified in their program. Ensure that all providers
have both a NPI number and a legacy Medicare ID (or "PIN).
